The E-Skipper Academy returns in 2023!
Sodebo Ultim and Virtual Regatta offer all participants a one-of-a-kind chance again. The opportunity to become the E-Skipper of Sodebo Ultim 3 and join the prestigious Team Sodebo to participate in the Transat Jacques Vabre!
In the footsteps of Thomas Coville on the North Atlantic
As in Season 1, Sodebo and Virtual Regatta are once again building a bridge between virtual and real sailing.
Season 2 of the E-Skipper Academy will be all about transmission and sharing between the two Team Sodebo E-Skippers. Julien Taillefer, E-Skipper Sodebo 2022, is very enthusiastic about again wearing the Team Sodebo colours in the Transat Jacques Vabre.
The first selection stage will begin on 20 June with a virtual race, the course of which has been carefully chosen for its link with the solo North Atlantic record set by Thomas Coville in 2017, in just 4 days, 11 hours, 10 minutes and 24 seconds, a feat still unmatched by any other sailor to have broken the five-day barrier.
To get through this first selection phase, you must rank among the top 100 competitors.
Throughout the summer, a panel of experts will choose the most promising candidates based on their eSport achievements and enthusiasm. Like a sailor, the e-skipper will have to demonstrate personal qualities and a willingness to share his or her journey with a broad audience.

As an E-Skipper, you’ll be at the heart of the action in the ultimate category of ocean racing: the Ultime Class. This unique experience will allow you to measure yourself against the best virtual sailors and proudly represent Sodebo Ultim 3!

“We’re going to recruit an athlete who will join the team, represent us and challenge himself against many more boats than me. He’ll be under a certain amount of pressure. Our role will also be to put him in the best possible position to win or, in any case, to perform at Virtual Regatta. I’m going to have someone else with me who’s going to be optimising the same emulation. He’ll have a different vision of my sport and my activity. And a real strategic and tactical vision is one of the essential parameters for winning. I can’t wait to see what kind of profile he or she will have. It’s a partnership that could last for a long time”.
